Nervine,
antispasmodic and emmenagogue.
Today Blue Cohosh is used to regulate the menstrual flow and
for
treating suppressed menstruation. This herb eases muscle spasms and
stimulates uterine contractions for childbirth and has been used in
folk medicine to prevent miscarriage. Blue Cohosh has also been used to
improve memory and calm nerves. This herb also reduces the inflammation
of arthritis and rheumatism.
Blue Cohosh should never be taken during the first two trimesters of
pregnancy, only in the last month of pregnancy.
